A simple world of "A" or "B"

in this capitalist society, and as most of us fall within that "customer" or "consumer" category, you will be interested in the following information.

to make it really simple on us, the lovely corporate entities of this mega business world have conveniently lumped us (read: the screwed), into two categories: i) manufacturer's warranty, ii) extended warranty. that's it. you're either i) or ii). and you're a sucker in both. let me explain.

you buy a camera (substitute this with any major purchase). your camera breaks. you've had it for 2.5 months. you take it in to get fixed. they (read: bastards, and they could be interchanged with ALL big business) take it from you and tell you that it will take about 2 months, or as they like to say, 60 days, to get fixed, but there are no guarantees that they will fix it (one month for someone to call you and tell you if they are going to fix it, and one month to actually fix it)

furthermore, when you call them, b/c its been 3 weeks and you have no idea what's going on or if they are going to fix it, they say that they're not really sure but its been sent out. so, you repeat the information that you were given when you dropped off the camera. BUT WAIT. no. its not quite what you were made to believe. and here's when you fall into i) manufacturer's warranty (read: not important in any way, so screw you) or ii) extended warranty (read: you're a sucker but at least we'll get to it at some point). the truth is this: since you're not on the extended warrantly, they have NO IDEA how long it will take to fix it. it could be 60 days, but they have no idea, it could take more, and they can't even give you a timeline. the 60 days only applies if you bought a manufacturer's warranty.

so our new elitist capitalist society is built on these two things, and only these two things. they either care about you vaguely b/c you gave them your money on top of the ridiculously overpriced item (and the commission), or they just can't be bothered.

just thought you'd want to know.
