Weighing the wants

I'm not going to run out and get Vista any time soon. I spoke to a kid at Best Buy and even he said not to buy it, to just wait until i'm due for a new computer. but therein lies the problem.

The one thing that i do like about vista is the sideshow. combined with the new designs in notebooks, the enternal lcd sideshow window will give user the ability to do some cool things without even opening or turning on the notebook. talk about battery saver. checking email, personal productivity, and music through the sideshow is very appealing.

but the problem is that while some of the notebooks are very attractive and functional, they're just notebooks. Take for example the Asus Wf5e. Its got a lof of good specs, its portable (light), external lcd screen. but, i'm now used to a tablet (i have the acer travelmate c110) and i'm also thinking that maybe i want to get another mac as a laptop (and just get bootcamp and run a seperatley bought vista).

so, my perfect laptop would be a mac with tablet functionality, lcd external screen for sideshow. but since they don't make that (YET?), i'm going to have to settle for something they do make. not sure which yet, but i have time since my laptop is still tolerable (though its slowly falling apart and i'm sure it would not be worth the cost of repairing all the little things are are breaking down). maybe i can wish to the gadget gods to make me my perfect laptop.

(and while they're on that, they could work out something for a perfect cell phone too (the closest i can see is the Sony Ericsson K810i but it would have a qwerty keyboard and wifi, or the iphone but with a real qwerty keyboard)

Comments:
According to the rumor mill, Apple is prepping a sub notebook.

There have been rumors about this before, so take it with a big grain of salt. Here are the details.

Just don't buy a Mac until OS 10.5 comes out, which could be as soon as March 31. You'll save the cost of upgrading {probably $179}.

thanks for the post jay. i'm probably going to wait for now, until my acer breaks down. but i'm starting to look so its good to know.
