The Shelf Life for Mourning

In the "newsertainment" and internet era, apparently 7 days is the self life for mourning.

That's it!!! seven days is the allowed for time of sympathy for someone tragically fallen. after the seven days (in attempts to grab for ratings to match those what were attained through sympathy and searching for answers), all bets are off and one is free to exploit till your hearts content.

of course, that time line is in accordance with media and western perspectives. god forbid someone should take a minute to mourn or examine.

i actually hear the words "Jake Gyllenhaul is STILL mourning". STILL??? did i warp in time. hasn't it been a week. are we exaggerating in our grief??? should we suck it up? move on? cause after all, its been a whole friggin week.

another reason i don't watch Entertainment Tonight and shows like it??? SENSATIONALISM. with the new headlines of the Heath Ledger drug video, the preview they ran made it seem like he was doing drugs on the video, that it was proof of his addiction etc. but have you actually seen the video??? in all 8 minutes of the video, Heath is chatting with people, he's drinking a beer, and he's talking about things like how he got an "M" (for his daughter) as a tattoo to help him remember why he doesn't want to smoke weed five times a day anymore. its not the shocking video they make it out to be. While I don't see the video as that damaging, I'm glad the Hollywood community came together and unspokenly threatened to boycott ET and its sister show. maybe its a sign of good things to come. Though the Britney thing (which i don't know the details of b/c i don't watch these stories or pay attention to them) seems to counter that hope.

UPDATE:

Another confirmation of why i refuse to watch celebrity sensationalist "news". Apparently, the "drug video" was a video caught by a "reporter" and "photographer" who trapped Ledger into the situation by purposefully inviting him to a party that had drugs in the room and the reporter asked him leading questions related to drugs. The video wasn't released b/c the Splash News lawyers thought that Ledger would have had a good case against them and would have gotten millions, but after his death, that wasn't an issue anymore, so they decided that that was the time to make a profit.

Nice.
